4 Thrilling Documentaries to Watch This Weekend
Tired of watching rom-coms? Or cannot watch another show where the hero always saves the world? Are you looking to watch something unorthodox, yet entertaining at the same time?
Say no more.
My girlfriend and I love watching thrilling documentaries on weekends. It’s a ritual. And here, I will share a few of them. But beware, some of these documentaries might be very disturbing for you, and aren’t for light-hearted people.
But before I get to those documentaries, why don’t I save your time and start by telling you where to watch them? Sounds good? Let’s start.
Where to Watch These Documentaries?
The good news is, you don’t have to shuffle between different streaming platforms as all these documentaries are available on Netflix. That being said, I would recommend you get a reliable internet connection, since these gripping storylines should be watched undisturbed.
For that, I too, can make a recommendation. I have never experienced any buffering since I subscribed to one of the high-speed, yet affordable Spectrum Internet Plans. Also, not to mention how I can quickly download movies or TV shows through Spectrum Internet to watch on the go.
Now, without further ado, let’s look at four documentaries you need to check out.
American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden
On 2nd May 2011 in Abbottabad, Pakistan, the notorious Osama Bin Laden, who once terrorized the world throughout the 2000s finally met his deserving fate at the hands of brave American forces.
Eliminating Bin Laden was no easy feat, as he had a well-established network of spies. Besides doing his dirty work, Osama’s agents helped him escape in the nick of time whenever he was about to be pinned down.
American Manhunt explores how the American intelligence network finally located Osama at a compound in the lofty mountains of Abbottabad. The gripping documentary also explains the complexities of Operation “Neptune Spear” and how the American forces took revenge for thousands of innocent people who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.
Curry and Cyanide – Joseph Jolly Case
Moving on from a renowned terrorist to an alleged lecturer, Joseph Jolly at NIT Calicut, this series is going to send shivers down your spine, for sure.
Joseph Jolly was married to Roy Thomas and was an ideal daughter-in-law according to Indian culture. However, no one knew that the same woman had a hunger, or should I say, lust for power to gain complete control over her in-laws.
While some people might think that she would play dirty tricks on her in-laws, she allegedly killed 6 of them between 2002 and 2016. Shocked? Well, not as shocking as what I’m going to tell you next.
One of Jolly’s victims was a 2-year-old kid, and she mercilessly poisoned the child with cyanide. Nevertheless, this documentary is a testament to how cruel and ruthless humans can be.
Mr. McMahon
It’s been quite some time since I last watched WWE. But I still remember how entertaining it was, especially the major WWE events like WrestleMania and Summer Slam.
Having said that, do you know that the WWE which we grew up watching was the creation of a single man? Yes, it was Vince McMahon, who often made an appearance inside the ring as well (but always got beaten).
This documentary explains all the highs and lows of Mr. McMahon’s life. Especially the ones related to creation, nurturing, and making WWE one of the global sports entertainment brands in the world.
I believe this documentary is a must-watch for anyone who’s ever been a WWE fan. Because Mr. McMahon and a few wrestlers reveal some top secrets about the industry that we’ve never seen or heard before.
Bad Surgeon – Love Under the Knife
Paolo Macchiarini was an Italian surgeon who was cherished around the world for his great medical skill.
As a thoracic surgeon, Paolo conducted a historical operation that involved plastic windpipes which were infused with stem cells. This operation was one of its kind and confused medical practitioners around the world.
Nevertheless, Paolo ruthlessly used his patients as experimental bodies and conducted more unorthodox operations on them. As a result, 7 out of 8 patients succumbed to death.
How Paolo manipulated people around him and made them believe in his dirty tricks is utterly shocking to see. And, if you’re up for a thriller with a lot of drama this weekend, this is the right pick for you!
So, that’s all from my side. I assure you these documentaries are way more entertaining and thrilling than most movies or shows on Netflix. Also, if you’ve watched such thrillers, do let me know in the comments section as I’m always looking for something new and unique to watch.
